How Employer Verification Works
When you see a Verified Employer badge, four specific checks have been completed and recorded. This page explains exactly what those checks are, when they were done, and — just as importantly — what the badge does not tell you.

1. Identity
We confirm who controls the account — a real person, reachable, with a role at the organisation they are recruiting for.
- The account holder's name, and the role they state they hold
- A verified email address on the account
- Supporting identification where the account holder is the business owner
2. Business
Employers tell us their legal structure — limited company, sole trader, partnership or other — and that decides how we check them. For a registered company it means Companies House: the registered name, number and status.
3. Contact
We confirm the employer can actually be reached — by us, and by a candidate who needs to raise something.
- A working phone number
- A business email address, and its domain where the business has one
- An operating location, not just a postcode on a form
4. Authority
We confirm the person posting is entitled to recruit for the organisation named on the listing. This is the check that stops someone advertising roles at a business they have no connection to.
Employers state their role at the company — owner, manager, recruiter — and we check that claim against the business details and documentation they have given us.
5. Every Listing Is Read
Verification covers the employer. Each individual job is reviewed separately, by a person, before it goes live — title, work location, pay basis, working arrangement and the application route.
Editing a live listing sends it back for review. An employer cannot get a job approved and then change it into something else.
6. Verification Is Not Permanent
The badge reflects what was checked on a particular date, and the listing shows you that date. Businesses change hands, addresses move and companies are dissolved.
- Employers are re-checked periodically
- A report or complaint triggers a re-check straight away
- The badge is removed while a concern is being investigated
- A suspended employer's listings come off the site immediately
7. What The Badge Does Not Mean
This matters more than the list above. Verification reduces risk. It does not remove it, and we will not imply otherwise.
- It is not a criminal record or background check
- It is not a guarantee of how an employer behaves
- It is not a promise about pay, hours or earnings
- It does not mean any particular role is safe
- It does not mean we have inspected a premises
- It is not a recommendation or an endorsement
Read the Safety Centre before meeting anyone, trust your own judgement over any badge, and tell us if something feels wrong.
8. If Something Is Wrong
If a verified employer is not who they say they are, or behaves in a way that contradicts their listing, tell us. Use Report a Concern — you can report anonymously — or email [email protected].
We re-check the employer, and the badge comes off while we do. We are not an emergency service: if you are in immediate danger, call 999.
Verification is a floor, not a ceiling.
It tells you an employer is real and reachable, and that a person read their listing. Everything you would normally do to protect yourself still applies.
